An awareness and screening program for Alzheimer’s disease was conducted at Geetamayi old age home in Balaji Nagar, Nellore on 21/9/2014. The entire psychiatry department was involved in the programme including house surgeons. The professor and Head of the department of Psychiatry Dr K.Krishna Murthy gave a comprehensive overview on the illness to the inmates of the old age home. In Telugu Dr P.Ranjith Kumar Asst professor department of Psychiatry spoke on the necessary care that is required to be given to patients suffering from Alzheimer’s dementia. This program was covered well by the local media.  A MMSE (mini mental state examination) was administered to all the inmates of the old age home by the postgraduates. For cognitive screening as necessary suggestions were given   by the House surgeons. Counducted Health checkup up to the inmates.  Advice was given regarding the importance of diet and healthy living for the prevention of dementia. Fruits and sweets were distributed at the venue and a geyser was donated by the department of psychiatry to the inmates of the old age home.
