A Scientific Update was organized by Dr.P.K.Lakshmi, SMO, NPSP, WHO Consultant on the recent developments in the area of Eradication of Poliomyelitis and Surveillance of other vaccine preventable diseases like, Measles, Rubella, Diphtheria etc., on 27 Nov, 2019, between 2 and 4 pm at the Anatomy Demonstration Room in Medical College. After a welcoming address by Dr. V. Surya Prakasa Rao, Dean, NMC, Dr. V. Chandrasekhar, Head of Community Medicine discussed the developments in the field of Immunizations since 1974. He discussed the challenges and victories by the NPSP leading to Elimination of polio from India and South East Asia Region of the WHO. He emphasized the need for international cooperation for the final victory. Dr.P.K.Rashmi, SMO discussed in detail the various components of the on-going Surveillance activities which are mandatory to keep polio out of India. She further discussed the need for the Surveillance of other vaccine preventable diseases. She discussed the various formats that need to be filled and sent to her by the doctors of our Medical College Hospital, especially the Paediatricians. She requested for the whole-hearted support and cooperation by all doctors of NMCH. About 50 faculty and PGs attended the programme. It was a grand success.
