The first cadaver( deceased donor ) transplantation in Narayana Medical college Hospital took place on 20.12.2014. The donor was Mr. A. Radha Krishna Murthy, aged 61 years who met with a road traffic accident and was declared as brain dead on 19.12.2014 by the Neurophysician Dr. N.S.Sampath Kumar, Neurosurgeon Dr.Amit agarwal and Dr. Harisha PN . The attenders came forward to donate the organs after counseling by the hospital staff.
The Director of Narayana Medical Institutions Dr. G.Subramanyam and the CEO Dr. C. Vijaya Mohan Reddy took active part in getting the permission for organ retrieval and donation.
The patient was maintained on ionotrope support and mechanical ventilation was provided by the intensivist Dr. Satish Kumar and Dr. Raghu. With this the patient had adequate blood pressure and urine output and he was investigated for fitness regarding organ donation.
Chronic kidney disease patient on Maintenance Hemodialysis was evaluated for kidney transplantation by the Nephrologist Dr. K. Praveen Kumar and the patient was admitted for the same.
The organs from the donor were retrieved by the Urologist Dr. V. Surya prakash and his team. The kidney transplantation was done.
A total of 5 patients were benefited by this cadaver transplant programme which is the first of its kind in Rayalaseema and South costal Andhra pradesh. Narayan Medical College hospital is the first center in the newly formed Andhra Pradesh state to do this kind of transplantation under N T R Arogyaseva scheme .
