The Department of General Surgery at Narayana Medical College successfully conducted a Live Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery Workshop on 24th September 2024. This hands-on academic initiative was aimed at enriching surgical knowledge and skills among postgraduate students, surgical trainees, and practicing surgeons, particularly in the field of minimally invasive hernia surgery.

The workshop featured Dr. T. Varun Raju, a nationally acclaimed laparoscopic surgeon and author, who served as the chief operating surgeon and resource person. Dr. Raju, the Head of Surgery at ST Hospital and Founder-President of the Hernia Society of Telangana, is also a noted surgical illustrator. His expertise brought immense value to the learning experience.

The sessions included:

• Live demonstration of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair using the e-TEP (enhanced view totally extraperitoneal)
  
  
• Step-by-step intraoperative guidance and narration.
  
  
• Real-time interaction between Dr. Raju and the audience, enabling clarification of concepts and techniques.
  
  

The participants had the opportunity to observe the surgery closely, gain practical insights, and engage in meaningful academic discussions throughout the session.

Dr. V. Mahidhar Reddy, Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery, served as the Organizing Chairman, while Dr. N. Venkata Harish, Assistant Professor, coordinated the event as the Organizing Secretary.

The workshop was attended by faculty members, postgraduate students, and invited guests from various medical institutions. It was highly appreciated for its clarity, depth, and the opportunity to witness advanced surgical techniques performed by a leading expert.
