Trauma remains a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in low and middle-income countries. Recognizing the rising burden of traumatic injuries and the critical need for evidence-based surgical intervention, the Department of General Surgery, Narayana Medical College, Nellore, successfully organized a Zonal CME titled “UNVEILING TRAUMA: Insights and Contemporary Surgical Solutions” on September 28, 2024.
The academic event was specifically designed for surgical faculty, postgraduates, and practicing surgeons from Zone IV institutions (KMC&H, GMC, RIMS-Ongole, NMCH, ACSR), and provided a comprehensive overview of trauma care, addressing a wide range of injuries from head to toe.
The day began with registrations from 8:00 to 8:30 AM, followed by the inauguration and welcome address between 8:30 and 9:00 AM.
The scientific sessions commenced with Dr. Sai Kiran, Neuro Surgeon, who presented on the Management of Head Injuries.
Dr. K.L. Sampath Kumar, Professor of Surgery, NMCH, followed with a session on the Management of Facial Trauma.
Dr. V. Mahidhar Reddy then spoke on the Management of Chest Trauma.
Dr. Sudharshan Reddy, Vascular Surgeon, delivered an insightful talk on Management of Vascular Injuries before the first tea break.
Post-tea, Dr. V. Dwarakanth Reddy, Surgical Gastroenterologist, elaborated on the Management of Liver and Pancreatic Injuries.
This was followed by Dr. G.V. Prakash, Professor of Surgery, NMCH, who spoke on Management of Splenic Trauma.
Dr. S. Nagamuneiah, Professor of Surgery, ACSR, addressed the Management of Bowel Injuries, and Dr. P.R. Vamsi Krishna, Surgical Gastroenterologist, concluded the pre-lunch sessions with a talk on Management of Anorectal Injuries.
After the lunch break, the sessions resumed with Dr. P. Veda Murthy Reddy, Urologist, discussing the Management of Renal Trauma.
Dr. M. Lakshmi Ramesh, Urologist, presented on the Management of Bladder and Urethral Injuries.
Dr. P. Srinivasa Rao, Plastic Surgeon, covered the Management of Soft Tissue Injuries, after which a second tea break was observed.
The final academic segment was an engaging Quiz for Postgraduate Students conducted from 3:45 to 4:45 PM.
The day concluded with a valedictory function from 4:45 to 5:15 PM.
The CME turned out to be a high-impact academic forum, thoroughly addressing the intricacies of trauma care from a surgical standpoint. The enthusiastic participation and rich academic discourse made the event a grand success.
The complexities of trauma were unveiled, and surgical responses were redefined — setting new standards for clinical excellence in trauma management.
