Zonal CME - Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology, Narayana Medical College, organized Zonal CME on “ Recent Updates and Intricacies in the Diagnosis of Urinary Bladder and Prostatic Carcinoma” on 12th July, 2026.

For the Zonal CME, around 250 delegates attended. Faculty and postgraduates from the Department of Pathology from various colleges of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu have attended. Radiology and Urology faculty and postgraduates from Narayana Medical College have also attended.

The first session was on “Latest WHO Classification of Urinary Bladder Tumours” by Dr. Sandhya Sundaram , Professor,  Pathology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College , Chennai.

Dr. Sandhya Sundaram continued with her second lecture on “Pitfalls and Best Practices in Interpretation of TURBT Specimens”

The 3rd lecture was on “ Newer Imaging Modalities for Carcinoma of Prostate and Urinary Bladder” by Dr. Rudresh Hiremath, Professor, Radiology , Narayana Medical College and Hospital, Nellore.

The 4th lecture was by Dr. Veda Murthy Reddy , Professor and HOD , Department of Urology , Narayana Medical College and Hospital  , Nellore. He spoke on the “Current Clinical Approach to Modern Treatment of Bladder Cancer”.

The 5th post lunch session was by Dr. Kharidehal Durga , Prof and HOD, Pathology , Narayana Medical College and Hospital , on the diagnostic difficulties of GG1 Prostate carcinoma , titled “Diagnostic Gaps, Traps and Wraps in Grade Group 1 (GG1) Prostate Carcinoma”

This was followed by lecture on “Clinical Management Following a Diagnosis of Grade Group 1 Prostate Carcinoma” by  Dr. Lakshmi Ramesh, Associate Professor of Urology, Narayana Medical College and Hospital  , Nellore.

The sessions reinforced the evolving role of the pathologist as an essential member of the multidisciplinary oncology team. Accurate histopathological diagnosis, awareness of modern imaging techniques, understanding of emerging therapies and effective clinicopathological correlation are critical for optimal management of patients with bladder and prostate cancers.

The CME ended with a quiz program conducted by Dr. Bhavana, Professor of Pathology, Narayana Medical College followed by valedictory and award function for Quiz winners.
