The first Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) procedure at Narayana Medical College & Hospital, Nellore, was successfully performed in February 2025 for the management of drug-resistant epilepsy.
The photographs document the surgical procedure, including exposure of the operative site and placement of the VNS lead/electrode around the vagus nerve, along with the specialized surgical instruments and VNS equipment used during the procedure.
This was an important milestone for the Department of Neurology, marking the introduction of advanced neuromodulation therapy for refractory epilepsy at the institution. VNS provides an additional treatment option for selected patients whose seizures remain uncontrolled despite appropriate anti-seizure medications.
