The Department of Medical Education, Narayana Medical College, successfully conducted the Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) from 10th to 12th April 2025, in association with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and under the guidance of the Regional Centre, Madras Medical College, Chennai. The programme was graced by the presence of the Observer Dr. K. Swaminathan, Director of Pathology, Madras Medical College. The Principal, Dr. P. Sreenivasulu Reddy, served as the Officer-in-Charge, and Dr. V. Mahidhar Reddy was the Coordinator of the programme. Medical Education Unit members were the Resource persons for the programme.
Faculty members from various departments including pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical specialties participated in the programme. The objective was to equip faculty with a comprehensive understanding of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), modern teaching-learning methods, student assessment strategies, and integration of AETCOM components.

Sessions were conducted using interactive and participatory teaching methods. These included group discussions, role plays, simulations, live demonstrations, and small group activities. This adult-learning-centered approach ensured deeper engagement and reflection among participants. A Pre-test was conducted at the start of the programme. At the end of the programme a Post-test and Retro-pre feedback was taken. Additionally, day wise feedback was taken at the end of each day through google forms. Everyday morning participants were made to present Rapporteur’s report of the previous day sessions.
The NMC observer, Dr. K. Swaminathan, appreciated the meticulous planning and execution of the programme. He commended the quality of resource faculty and the active involvement of participants in all sessions.
The BCME workshop enhanced the pedagogical capabilities of faculty members, particularly in CBME implementation, lesson planning, AETCOM integration, and assessment methodology. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the structure, delivery, and utility of the sessions. The post-test and feedback revealed significant gains in both conceptual understanding and application-oriented teaching skills.
